HOME PICKLING Rules & Guidelines:

  • Bring your entries to the America’s Test Kitchen tent no later than 12 noon
    (Please note: competition will only take place during the morning session!)
  • Please include sheet / label with your name, phone number, email address and all ingredients used in recipe
  • Entry must be preserved in an acidic brine, vinegar brine or by anaerobic fermentation
  • Entry must be a single pickled item
  • Pickled item can be can be anything, from vegetable to fruit, egg, or meat
  • Entry cannot be from a canned or processed jar
  • The winner will be judged on: Flavor, Texture & Creativity

MEET THE JUDGES

TJ Connelly

Jeremy Ogusky

Jeremy is a studio potter, husband, hard worker, collaborator, and passionate fermenting evangelist (and founder of the Boston Fermentation Festival) living in Boston. Jeremy strives to create work that has use. Before working full time with his hands in mud, he spent overy 10 years committed to HIV prevention and community health education on multiple continents. 

Jeremy understands that the decision to buy handmade objects is more than just an economic decision, but a political one. By creating functional ceramic art for use in the kitchen & home, he hopes to be making beautiful & useful objects while also building a more just economy and appreciation for craft.

Christie Morrison

Christie Morrison has been teaching people how to cook for eight years. During her time at America’s Test Kitchen, she’s been a member of the books team, a senior editor for Cook’s Country, an instructor in the America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School, and an editor of special projects, such as America’s Test Kitchen’s cooking shows aboard Holland America Line. She’s also taught cooking classes at The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. Now she gets to add “on-screen test cook” to the list. Read a recent interview with Christie here >>

Drew Starr is a consultant, occasional food writer, and full-time loudmouth. He has more than 35 years of experience –including 20 in Boston — as a deli fanatic, bagel opinion haver, and pickle snob. His writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, Eater, and Boston Globe Magazine, and he enjoys writing about himself in the third person.
